Hozon Kai (NPO)...
The N.T.H.K. was established in Tokyo in 1910 as
a noncommercial entity to foster preservation of the Japanese sword. Today, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with branches in the United States, Canada, Australia, and in the E.U. (England), the group is active globally as an incorporated, government registered, non-profit organization (NPO). The organization continues in the spirit of the founding members to promote, internationally, the study, appreciation, and preservation of the Japanese sword and related arts.
Ongoing activities include a monthly study meeting in Tokyo and the publishing of a bi-monthly journal. This publication, titled "Token to Rekishi", is an educational journal of sword related articles. A significant portion of each issue is translated into English. All members of the NTHK-(NPO) receive the journal. More information and a downloadable sample is available here.
The NTHK has a panel of experts who conduct a monthly "shinsa", or sword judging, and
issue authentication papers called "kantei-sho". These shinsa are also performed overseas from time to time. See "Upcoming Events" in the upper right frame for details of upcoming NTHK (NPO) shinsa.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in Japanese swords and the related arts.
